It took place in Westport around 4:20 p.m., Monday, May 23 at 294 Saugatuck Ave.
The first police and fire personnel to arrive found that two cars collided causing extensive damage to both, said Lt. David Wolf, of the Westport Police.
Both drivers, the sole occupants of both vehicles, sustained injuries, Wolf said.
An individual in one of the cars was conscious and able to speak with emergency responders, he said.
That person was extricated by firefighters and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the other car was unresponsive and did not have a pulse, police said. The individual was pronounced dead by medical personnel on the scene, Wolf said.
The Westport Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team with assistance from the Fairfield Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team will be handling the investigation.
The victim’s name will not be released until the next of kin are notified, police said.
